Made by hand, start to finish

One goldsmith takes each piece from the first pencil line to the last polish. Keep scrolling to watch an Aurelia being made.

  1. 1

    Drawing

    3 hours

Every piece starts as a pencil drawing at actual size, then a measured drawing to a tenth of a millimeter, so the stone sits exactly where your eye expects it.

  2. 2

    Carving

    9 hours

The ring is carved in green jeweler's wax with files and gravers. Shoulders, gallery and claws are all shaped by hand, never printed.

  3. 3

    Casting

    5 hours

The wax is set in plaster and burned out, and recycled 18k gold is poured into the space it leaves. It comes out rough, dull and exactly the right shape.

  4. 4

    Setting

    8 hours

Under the microscope, each claw is cut with a seat for the stone, then pushed over it and filed until it holds the gem without hiding it.

  5. 5

    Polishing

    6 hours

Six grades of polish, from coarse grit to red rouge. Then the hallmark goes inside the band: RK 750 and the year.

Recycled gold. Stones with a paper trail.

We stopped buying newly mined gold in 2016. Every stone we set comes with the name of the place it was found and the person who cut it.

Gold

Our gold is refined in Providence, Rhode Island, from old jewelry, dental gold and circuit boards, then alloyed by us in small batches. It is the same metal that comes out of the ground, without the open pit.

Stones

We buy from miners, cutters and farmers we know by name, and pass every certificate on to you with the piece. If you would rather wear a lab-grown diamond, we set those too, grown with hydropower in Washington State.

Find your size

A ring should slide over the knuckle with a little resistance, then sit without spinning. Most of the hands we fit are between a US 5 and a US 8.

  • Measure late in the day, when your hands are warm.
  • Wide bands fit snug. Above 4 mm, go up a quarter size.
  • Not sure? We will post you a set of brass sizers, free, with a return label.
